Sugar Free Fruit Loaf Bread Recipe
Sugar-Free Fruit Bread Recipe, a wholesome and delicious tea loaf that proves you don't need added sugars, just add dried fruit for a burst of flavour.
This no sugar tea loaf bread recipe is delicious toasted and spread with butter for breakfast or a snack. It couldn't be any simpler to make your own bread! Many fruit breads nowadays are produced with sugar as a main ingredient as the sugar does help the bread to rise. Now you can enjoy the original simple version without any added refined sugar.
Stir together the dry ingredients first. You can use all-purpose flour, plain flour or white bread flour for this recipe.
Pour in the hand-hot water, it shouldn't be too hot to touch or it will kill the yeast and the loaf won't rise. I find it's easiest to combine the dough with a blunt knife.
You'll end up with a sticky dough.
Cover and allow to rise in a warm place until the dough has doubled in size, for about an hour.
Scrape out the dough onto a floured surface, knead a few times to shape into a long loaf. You can knead it for longer if you like, if you do it results in a softer loaf but you'll need to allow it rise again first before you bake it.
This fruit bread recipe is a crusty loaf, just perfect for toasting and spreading with butter.
Enjoy it for breakfast, as an afternoon snack or with a cup of tea.
This recipe is definitely a kitchen staple, basic and simple but endlessly customisable - try it with other dried fruit instead of the sultanas: Raisins, dried apricots, dried cranberries, chopped dates, dried figs or mango!
